Adia Millett: Wisdom Keepers
September 16, 2023 – February 18, 2024

Wisdom Keepers, a solo exhibition by Adia Millett, explores the parallels between craftswomen and warriors, highlighting how both protect, preserve, and build community and culture. The exhibition features quilted sculptures, paintings, glass shields, crocheted spears, and an immersive sound sculpture, inspired by African American quilts from BAMPFA. Collaborations with Bay Area dancers, sound artists, and crafters expand the dialogue between past, present, and future.

Interpretive text is provided by guest scholar Jacqueline Francis, Ph.D., Professor of History of Art and Visual Culture at California College of the Arts. Curated by Zoë Latzer, Curator and Director of Public Programs, in partnership with BAMPFA and the San José Museum of Quilts & Textiles.
