Rhonda Holberton: A Knotted World
March 31 – August 13, 2023

“And in a knotted world of vibrant matter, to harm one section of the web may very well be to harm oneself.” – Jane Bennett, Vibrant Matter

In a Knotted World explores the intersections of technology, biology, and the environment, asking viewers to consider how digital and biological systems shape our lives and relationships. Bay Area artist Rhonda Holberton builds on four series examining the militarization of land and technologies that both protect and extend violence beyond the visible.

Holberton positions humans as cyborgs—hybrids of organism and machine—enmeshed in a symbiosis with microorganisms, energy systems, and the land itself. Her work blends subtle animations, digital interventions, sculptures, and installations to reveal the material and environmental impacts of technology and climate change, encouraging reflection on our collective responsibilities.
